JOOR’s Fall 2023 Men’s Fashion Trend Report

January 25, 2023

From Florence to Berlin to Paris, the new men’s collections made a splash, reinventing the classics and giving consumers wardrobe-building basics. Gone is the reign of streetwear and logos. During the Fall 2023 Menswear season, we saw new trends emerge—a resurgence of tailored dressing, cozy fabrications, a neutral color palette, and a return to preppy. This season’s new take on menswear is sure to excite both retail buyers and consumers.

Modern Tailoring

Push aside those sweats… it’s time to dress up! But this is not your father’s classic suit. This season, we saw a new direction in tailoring—from dropped shoulders to asymmetric design elements, each brand delivered their own perspective in the suit department. Dries Van Noten offered relaxed, oversized proportions, while Giorgio Armani skillfully layered texture and pattern. Dhruv Khapoor’s suit had a subtle retro allure, and Saint Laurent played with exaggerated shoulders and sharp silhouettes.

Natural Neutrals

The color palette this season was dominated by beige, camel, and sand—versatile neutrals that were brought to life in rich fabrics and monochromatic dressing. Berluti proved you can be both sophisticated and sporty, pairing cozy oatmeal cashmere with a button-down shirt.  Loewe’s exaggerated coat looked almost cloud-like, and Aurali and Lemaire both nailed the trend of neutral-toned comfortable dressing.

Seeing Shearling

One thing was clear: shearling coats were ever-present this season. While designers showed a range of interpretations, all these jackets have something in common—distinctive shearling trim around the collar and cuffs. Neil Barrett played with a trench coat silhouette, while Isabel Marant delivered an updated bomber-style jacket. VTMNTS and Martine Rose were inspired by oversized fits, all defining shearling as the coat of the season.

Back to School

Some might argue it never left, but varsity jackets, cardigan sweaters, and corduroy items are on the rise, making preppy style one of the hottest trends of the season. MSGM championed this trend, showcasing various outfits that reimagined the traditional schoolboy look. Wales Bonner and Emanuel Ungaro referenced traditional letterman jackets, while Woolrich layered a mix and match of conventional plaid.

Cozy Cardigans

Plush and luxurious, these cozy knits were made to stand out in your wardrobe. Missoni’s take incorporated their hallmark approach to print, while Loewe chose to focus on a singular vibrant color. Isabel Marant added dimension with a subtle speckled pattern, and Sacai’s gradient fabric brought the party to the traditional cardigan silhouette.
